Transport

Terry worked in manufacturing to pay his way through university to become a civil / structural engineer (thesis in analysing accident data and intersection treatment) and then spent time with local government and several years with an innovative traffic engineering company.

Cyclist in Netherlands

Following 10 years living in The Netherlands, Terry interviewed various people and produced a presentation on Why Bicycles Work that covered integration of transport infrastructure, facilities, local bike management along with taxation treatment which was delivered to University students for over 5 years.

Variable Message Sign

Traffic Management Systems Terry was National Marketing Manager and used his construction and contract management skills for Stratford Traffic.  This project was required due to significant rear end collisions due to fog (sea mist).  It was such a leading edge technology systems implementation at that time combining fog detectors, road traffic sensors and the fibre optic variable message signs it was featured in Engineers Australia

ITS Cover Scanned

International Publication Governments were issuing signage specifications which were dangerous, couldn’t be seen (for long enough) and to solve the problem Terry wrote a paper on the use of Variable message signs in High Speed Environments that was published into the international proceedings. The feedback was immediate in that one person asked if it could be given to a State Coroner (for an active investigation) and later advised by a vendor that it was issued to every road authority in Europe.

Car over road loops

Clients tend to transition through the traffic engineering department in local government and it became clear that most did not know how to use the equipment.  This resulted in a training program and the production of a video on Traffic Survey Technologies  which was sold with equipment and became teaching material in most universities. The result was a significant increase in equipment utilisation and sales.
